Selip & Misinec named co-Executives of the Year by Rubber & Plastics News

Richard D. Selip, president and Joseph A. Misinec, executive vice president of Grand River Rubber and Plastics, a 100 percent employee-owned lathe cut washers, tubular gaskets and flat drive belts manufacturer in Ashtabula, Ohio, have been named co-Executives of the Year by Rubber & Plastics News.
This is the first time two top executives have received this honor since the award’s inception in 1989 (and the second time for Selip who was Executive of the Year in 1997). “This is another proud day for Grand River Rubber amongst many during the leadership of these fine gentlemen,” states Donny Chaplin, senior vice president. “Every single day I witness first-hand their commitment to our employee family and can attest to how much we have all learned from their guidance.”
Selip’s and Misinec’s management approach focuses on encouraging innovation, while maintaining honesty and confidence. Both continuously put the wellbeing of the company’s employees first when making decisions. In 2011, they sold the business to their employees in an employee stock ownership plan, making Grand River 100 percent employee-owned. Both officers will retire in March, 2015 and remain on the board of directors through 2018. “This recognition is a tremendous honor, but the hard work and dedication of our entire 210 employees deserve as much credit for creating our success,” acknowledges Mr. Selip.
